My Story
My name is Liam Keelty and I'm a basketmaker. I'm based in east Co. Limerick, in the Golden Vale of Ireland, also known as the Heart of Munster.
My Story
For the last few years I've been making baskets. We have a small plot of land on which I grow willow, varieties specifically for basketry.
But that hasn't always been the case.
For 10 years I was a sound engineer in Bristol. Then the pandemic put a stop to all that and I took the opportunity to move back home, have a simpler, more natural way of life, and learn a new skill.
I learned from books, by copying baskets we had around the house, and from several professional basketmakers.
Since then I've become a confident weaver, developing my own style.
